and very popular work “Virtutum vitiorumque exempla [...]” called the “Biblia pauperum” (1
st
ed. : 1477). This book is a compilation of extracts from the Bible (on malediction, homicides,
abstinence, adoration, pauperty, miracles…), imitating Valerius Maximus, giving examples
to pursuit a proper Christian life. Typographical title within a woodcut frame figuring on the
sides Saint Paul and Saint Pieter, above the conversion of Saint Paul and below pilgrims
near a fontain with a man showing the Holy Scriptures. The French Dominican Nicolas de
Hannappes (c. 1225-1291) was the last Occidental Patriarch of Jerusalem.

New Testament with the Epistles of Paul, the Catholic Epistles and the Apocalypse
published the year of the convening by Paul III of the Council of Trent. Illustrated with
104 woodcuts (various sizes) in the text, often repeated in the Gospels,- one full-page
with the title preceding the Acts of Apostles,- books titles within cartouches, some with
historiated vignettes (the Evangelists, etc.),- historiated or ornemental initials letters,-
François Gryphe's griffon mark on titel-page. The first edition of 1537 was only illustrated in
the Acts of Apostles and the Apocalypse.

Very early postincunabulum
edited by the Franciscan theologian and poet Dominicus
Ponzonus. Collection of sermons on the Virgin Mary in which the Italian Capuchin Bernardino
de Busti or Busto (c. 1450-1513) defends the dogma of the “Immaculate Conception” and
formulates the “Marian privilege”. Copy with wide margins in neat typography presenting
notes by two contemporary hands (the major part in red ink).

and one oval in the center), gilt decorated ribbed spine, gilt edges (spine and flyleaves renewed, small lacks,
scratches on lower board).

Hours of the Virgin in a richly decorated edition followed by the Hours of the Cross, the
Seven Penitential Psalms, the Litany of the Saints, etc. Illustrated with 12 (on 13) nice full-
pages picturing scenes of Mary and Jesus' lives like the Visitation, the Announcement of
Jesus' birth, the Presentation of Jesus at the Temple, the Crucifixion, the Dormition, etc. The
entire work is encircled by various large woodcut frames
(repeated) in Renaissance style figuring architectures,
decorations “à la grotesque”, floral ornaments or
medallions. Text in black and red Roman typesetting with
dotted initial letters ; printer's mark on title-page. Copy with
some leaves ruled.

Cuyck, “Confesseur van de Witte Vrouwen binnen Loven”.
