Eerste Cock-uitgave
van dit psalterium, in de volksmond “souterliedekens” genoemd met
165 psalmberijmingen waarvan 154 met eenstemmige muzieknotatie. Typografie in zwart
en rood, titelblad versierd met een houtsnede met voorstelling van koning David met zijn
lier. Het voorwerk bevat een alfabetisch register van de liederen. Huybens onderscheidt
9 varianten in de titels van deze Cock-uitgave uit 1540 ; in 1559 liet Cock een nieuwe
uitgave verschijnen, op kleiner formaat en met een andere titel.

Bockenberg (Gouda 1548-1617 Leiden) studied literature and theology in Leuven after
having emigrated with his catholic parents from Schoonhoven. As a priest he served in
Vienna, Presburg, Prague, München and Milan until he quited priestship and got married
in c. 1588. Living in Leiden afterwards, he dedicated himself to writing and became
Historiographer of the Netherlands.
