directeur général de la Deutsche Bank ;
il s’investit beaucoup dans les organisations
dans les organisations juives, notamment en
faveur de la colonisation de la Palestine ;
il avait épousé Käthe Haupt.]
Il les remercie pour leur invitation. Sa femme
dit qu’il ne devrait pas écrire. Mais il ose quand
même, sachant que Wassermann connaît
assez l’opinion cordiale d’Einstein envers lui
et son action admirable (« Ihrem wunderbaren
Wirken »), pour interpréter correctement sa
conduite. Einstein ne pourra accomplir ses
tâches sérieuses dans son état de santé
instable qu’en se retirant de la vie sociale non
officielle (« Ich kann nämlich meinen ernsten
Aufgaben nur dann einigermassen gerecht
werden bei meinem labilen Gesundheits
Zustande, wenn ich mich von dem inoffiziellen
gesellschaftlichen Leben zurückziehe »)…

si remplie et compliquée, il pourrait voir
les gens qui l’intéressent beaucoup plus !...
[Le travail merveilleux de Wassermann se
réfère certainement à ses nombreuses
activités pour promouvoir la colonisation
juive en Palestine ; il avait amené Einstein au
comité d’honneur du
Pro-Palästina Komitee.]

colonization of Palestine. He married Käthe

Einstein thanks the couple for their invitation.
His wife claims that he should not write.
But he has dared nonetheless knowing that
Wassermann knows Einstein’s favourable
opinion towards him and his admirable
actions (« Ihrem wunderbaren Wirken »).
Einstein is not capable of realizing his work
with his present unstable health (« Ich kann
nämlich meinen ernsten Aufgaben nur dann
einigermassen gerecht werden bei meinem
labilen Gesundheits Zustande, wenn ich mich
von dem inoffiziellen gesellschaftlichen Leben
zurückziehe »). Wassermann’s “admirable
actions” certainly refer to his numerous
activities in favour of the promotion of Jewish
colonization of Palestine. Wassermann had
invited Einstein to the honorary committee
of
Pro-Palästina Komitee.

attitude who is sometimes forced to evolve
socially, if obligated, during official instances.
Unless obliged, Einstein stays away from
such social obligations. Should life be less
complicated, he would be able to see the
people that truly interest him.
