la photo le montrant à ses aises devrait lui
attirer de bons clients. Mac avait l’air de
regorger de liquidités, et de mourir d’envie de
les donner… L’organisation P.T. se porte bien.
Il croyait bien s’être trompé en se joignant
aux P.T. et maintenant il en est sûr : ce salaud
de Wells s’est enfui avec $3000 et ils doivent
maintenant environ $2000 ; probablement
que le Comité des Questeurs dont il est
membre devra mettre la main à la poche.
Peut-être aura-t-il besoin de lui demander
un prêt, après tout… Il a vu Tyrone l’autre
jour : tout sourire… Le week-end dernier il
était sur la Côte Ouest pour voir le match
Harvard-Stanford et il a vu Red Lay, de
l’escadron 10 [de sous-marins, actif dans le
Pacifique pendant la guerre] : ils ont eu une
longue conversation sur la bonne bande
de types qu’ils avaient dans l’escadron 10 :
Bill Rome, etc.
