Prière de lui pardonner de n’avoir pas répondu à son télégramme :
il attendait que son avocat lui résume toutes les offres
cinématographiques reçues. Si Bill a un projet détaillé, qu’il le lui
envoie et il le fera suivre à son avocat qui s’en occupe : si on ne
respecte pas la marche à suivre, on bousille tout… Il est ravi d’apprendre
son grand succès avec Gold Medal Books [jeune filiale de la maison
d’édition Fawcett, qui innova avec l’édition originale en livre de
poche]. Il regrette de ne l’avoir pas entendu à la radio. Il est agréable
d’apprendre qu’il se souvient des vieux jours. Il n’est certainement
pas fâché contre Bill, et il est si heureux qu’il réussisse…

Hemingway is sorry he hasn’t replied to Bill Lengel’s telegram who is
offering a proposal for a film based on one of Hemingway’s works:
“...If you have a project with details would you please send it to me
and I will forward it to my lawyer who is handling this. Unless all this
goes through channels it gets balled up...” Hemingway congratulates
Lengel on the success of Gold Medal Books launched in 1950. Lengel
was the editor of this innovative publishing venture which successfully
introduced paperback originals.
