Hemingway exprime son aversion pour le film de
The Sun Also Rises
tiré de son roman : « ... I was a little pissed off at everybody but me
making money from Sun Also and a shitty picture to boot ... » et son
souhait que Viertel quitte Hollywood et reprenne l’écriture : « Go ahead
and write your damned book. But don’t think you can keep jerking
yourself off for pictures and then command any fee at stud. Finish
this book no matter how hard it is to do... », avec un souscripteur
avec quatre mots au « Best to Luis Miguel [Dominguín] », le torero.
Peter Viertel (1920-2007) a écrit les scénarios de
The Sun also Rise
s
(1957) et de
The Old Man and the Sea
(1958). Les deux hommes
avaient une relation chaleureuse, malgré la faible opinion d’Hemin-
gway sur Hollywood, et Hemingway conseilla à plusieurs reprises
à Viertel de se concentrer sur ses romans, dont le plus connu est
White Hunter
