Elle veut lui demander un grand service :
« Je veux envoyer à la campagnemes DEGAS » ;

Mary Cassatt wishes to send her DEGAS
paintings to the countryside. She asks
Ambroise VOLLARD to go rue de Marignan
and take down a number of paintings. She also
asks VOLLARD to return her large paintings.
English translation: « I’m coming to ask you
to return to me the large series (of paintings).
Please send them to the country care of Mr.
Degas, and for that reason I must have them
wrapped, but before that, have them taken
down and put together. My concierge won’t
know how to put them back. Would you,
my friend, have the goodness to go to Rue
de Marignan and to take down the nude and
put it with the others and also the painting
of the head of a woman, and put it with the
pastel of the nude (a portrait of my niece)
hung up near the door. I finished wrapping
some of them and put them into some solid
cartons and made a package that we’ll be
able to carry easily. If the basement at Mr.
Lapetic had been deeper, I would have had
the paintings stored there. I think we can not
worry about the subject of the waxes, we don’t
have them. Please accept this letter with my
excuses and thanks, as well as my friendly
salutations. Mary Cassatt »
