Some (considered by Theodoret [first half of the fifth century, who
defended the heretic Nestorius in the quarrel over the double nature
of Christ] to be Sethians and Ophites, a branch of the Nicolaitans)
say that Christ has taken human form with his sister Sophie, and that
Jesus being born of a Virgin was wiser, holier, and more righteous
than all men, and the Christ embraced by Sophia descended upon
him and so was made Jesus Christ, and when Christ descended
upon him, then he began to perform miracles and healings, and to
reveal the unknown father, and when he was led to Pilate, Christ with
Sophia departed from him in the incorruptible Æon [Eternity in Greek,
in Neoplatonic Gnosis a spiritual power emanating from a supreme
principle and making possible its action on things], and Jesus was
crucified, and resurrected by a virtue which Christ sent from above;
from these points of view, a monster with several heads was imagined
by the school of Valentinus [Greek Gnostic of the middle of the second
century and some say that Sophia became a serpent etc…
Newton also penned a half-page of algebra and geometry calculations
and equations, part of his personal mathematical research or his
official work at the Royal Mint.
