Important document historique annonçant le cessez-le-feu et la fin
de la guerre en Europe.
Chef du Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force (SHAEF),
Eisenhower, repoussant les phrases emphatiques proposées par
son état-major, choisit une formulation sobre, toute militaire :
« La mission des Forces Alliées a été remplie a 0241 (2h41) heure
locale, 7 mai 1945 ». Quelques heures à peine après la capitulation des
Allemands, ce message, adressé aux chefs d’État-Major des Forces
Alliées, annonce la fin de la guerre. Le message, dactylographié sur
un papier à en-tête du SHAEF et rédigé par Eisenhower lui-même,
a été envoyé à « 0324 (3h24) », moins d’une heure après la reddition
des Allemands.

Important historical document, announcing the cease-fire and
marking the end of the war in Europe. .
As Chief of the Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force
(SHAEF), Eisenhower chose the least emphatic phrasing and a sober
military wording: « The mission of this Allied Force was fulfilled at
0241, local time, May 7th, 1945 ». The message was sent at « 0324
(3h24) », less than an hour after the surrender of the German forces.
