à l'honneur actuellement par les mouvements locavores et certains restaurateurs), le
tome III du jardin d'ornement (variétés de fleurs et quelques arbres dont gingko, yucca,
micocoulier…) et le tome IV des orangers et “limoniers” mais aussi des serres et de
leurs constructions (15 pl. dépliantes) permettant le développement d'aloès, amandier,
arbousier, câprier, jasmin, jujubier, olivier, grenadille, papayer, palmier, zédoaire… pour les
plus connus. Cette édition était disponible chez les éditeurs mais aussi chez un grainetier-
fleuriste de Paris. Le tome IV est daté 1788, les autres 1789. L'originale date de 1775.

Eerste uitgave van de vertaling
van dit landbouwkundig handboek. Serrurier (Hanau
1771-1844 Den Haag) was eerst predikant maar legde zich later toe op land- en tuinbouw.
Hij vertaalde het werk van Christ over de fruitteelt en verrijkte het met ontleningen aan het
werk van Forsyth o.a. over nieuwe technieken om bomen te snoeien. De 1
ste
uitgaven van
beide werken dateren respectievelijk uit 1803 en 1802. Onze vertaling bevat 13 didactische
platen uit het werk van Forsyth en 5 platen uit het werk van Christ met afbeeldingen van
fruitbomen en snoeitechnieken, voorafgegaan door een uitgebreide legende.

First edition
of this lavishly illustrated horticultural magazine that ran from 1815 to 1847.
It was founded by the botanical illustrator Sydenham Edwards (Abergavenny 1769?-
1819 Chelsea), who edited 5 volumes in five years. During this period, the text was
provided by John Bellenden Ker Gawler and Edwards provided the paintings which were
engraved and hand-coloured by assistants. After Edwards' death, editorial duties passed
to the publisher James Ridgway, who issued a further 9 volumes between 1820 and 1828.
In 1829, John Lindley was appointed editor. A further 19 volumes were issued before the
magazine was discontinued in 1847. In 1839, Lindley also issued an “Appendix to the Firsty
Twenty-Three Volumes of Edwards's Botanical Register” which included “A Sketch of the
Vegetation of the Swan River Colony” from his hand. In all we counted 1634 color plates,
those of the 8 volumes with dampstains not included. The year 1834 (vol. 20) is missing.

moyens de conserver le vin, des bois de charpente, etc. Édition traduite par de Chazelles
à laquelle on a ajouté des planches (éd. orig. en anglais : 1731). Le tome VIII contient un
index des arbres et plantes, leur terme en français et latin, un index latin, un index en
anglais et un calendrier des jardiniers. Il parut 2 vol. de supplément en 1790.
