Fine Sammelband on instruments, surveying, and drafting. The very rare work by Hulsius describes for
the first time the drafting instrument invented by the Swiss Joost Bürgi, mathematician and instrument-
maker to the Emperor Rudolph II. The instrument, illustrated on one of the title pages, is a proportional
compass or sector and it is extensively described in the text, giving a host of applications, from such
specialized operations as taking measurements for maps, the construction of maps and globes, to varying
the distances between given points necessary for the construction and modification of perspective.

Édition originale, rare, de ce traité consacré aux formes géométriques, compilé d’écrits de
plusieurs auteurs. Les quatre premières planches montrent des instruments de mathématiques suivies
de planches de formes géométriques et de dessins pour leur construction et découpage. L’une d’elles
représente la construction d’une sphère, nécessaire pour la création de globes. Welper était professeur
de mathématiques à Strasbourg et rédigea quelques ouvrages d’astronomie et d’astrologie.
The work by Welper on geometrical forms gives details on mathematical instruments, followed by
extensive plates illustrating solid geometrical constructions and how they would be designed and cut
out and folded into various complex shapes.
