Hybrid binding : calf on wooden boards with brass clasps, blind stamped boards with fillets and ornemental roll-stamps, gilt decorated ribbed spine, title with pen on the fore-edge (joints and parts of the boards repaired, spine renewed in 17th Cent., rubbed, one clasp lacking, flyleaves and pastedowns renewed).
Famous work of the Greek philosopher (46-125) edited among others by Lapo da Castiglionchio the Younger (c. 1405-1438), Leonardo Giustiniani (1388-1446) and Francesco Barbaro (c. 1398-1454). Contains more than 50 biographies, several opposing a Greek to a Roman, often followed by a short comparison between them. Decorated with initial letters (ornemental or historiated) and the printer's marks on title-page and on the back of last leaf.
