Description
L'un des sept portraits de l'éditeur que Picasso dessina le même jour dans l'arrière-salle d'un restaurant de Golfe-Juan, après un chaleureux dîner.

En marge de la tête de Skira de profil, Picasso a inscrit : «VII Golfe-Juan le 16 septembre 1953. Pour ces 25 ans d'éditions et 30 Ans d'Amitié. Picasso».

Picasso et Skira, «30 ans d'amitié». [L'éditeur suisse Albert SKIRA (1904-1976) «joua un rôle important dans la vie de Picasso en lui commandant, à l'automne 1930, l'illustration des Métamorphoses d'Ovide. Picasso y réussit des transformations surréalistes dans le graphisme le plus admirablement classique qui soit, et chanta ainsi pour la première fois, sous divers masques, la beauté du corps de Marie-Thérèse. Ce fut là un des éléments qui conduisirent Vollard à lui commander ce qui allait devenir la Suite Vollard. Skira allait lui offrir une autre opportunité, en créant, en 1933, la luxueuse revue Minotaure ; pour la couverture du premier numéro, Picasso créa un collage virtuose» (Pierre Daix, Dictionnaire Picasso).

Golfe-Juan 16 September 1953 ; blue ballpoint pen, on laid paper 27.1 x 20.8 cm (original fold mark). — Portrait of the publisher Albert SKIRA. — One of the seven portraits of the publisher that Picasso drew on the same day in the back room of a restaurant in Golfe-Juan, after a warm dinner. — In the margin of Skira's head in profile, Picasso inscribed : "VII Golfe-Juan 16 September 1953. For these 25 years of editions and 30 Years of Friendship. Picasso". — Picasso and Skira, "30 Years of Friendship". [The Swiss publisher Albert SKIRA (1904-1976) "played an important role in Picasso's life by commissioning him, in the autumn of 1930, to illustrate Ovid's Metamorphoses. Picasso achieved surrealist transformations in the most admirably classical graphics, and thus sang for the first time, under various masks, the beauty of Marie-Thérèse's body. This was one of the elements that led Vollard to commission him to produce what was to become the Vollard Suite. Skira was to offer him another opportunity, by creating, in 1933, the luxurious magazine Minotaure ; for the cover of the first issue, Picasso created a virtuoso collage" (Pierre Daix, Dictionnaire Picasso).
