•22 janvier 1858. Il envoie une lettre pour M. Michaux. «Je recommence effectivement à travailler. Je m'y étais remis trop tôt cet été. J'ai pris le parti de me promener, qui m'a réussi davantage. Je prends encore beaucoup de précautions mais en somme je vais bien»...
•Jeudi soir, à ROBERT-FLEURY, présentant M. Arnoux, rédacteur de L'Époque, qui «désire beaucoup voir les tableaux que vous envoyez au Salon et dont je lui ai parlé comme j'en pense. Comme il s'occupe beaucoup des arts et qu'il en parle en homme qui les aime véritablement, je pense que vous serez heureux de le connaître et de lui montrer votre atelier»...
•Dimanche matin. «Je vous attendrai avec beaucoup de plaisir demain lundi jusqu'à onze heures : je dois partir pour quelques jours pour la campagne et serais autrement obligé d'ajourner notre entrevue»...

I had started again too early this summer. I have taken the step of walking, which has been more successful for me. I am still taking a lot of precautions, but all in all I am doing well"... — Thursday evening, to ROBERT-FLEURY, introducing M. Arnoux, editor of L'Époque, who "very much desires to see the paintings you are sending to the Salon and about which I have spoken to him as I think of them. As he is very interested in the arts and speaks of them as a man who truly loves them, I think you will be happy to know him and to show him your studio"... — Sunday morning. "I shall wait for you with great pleasure tomorrow, Monday, until eleven o'clock : I must leave for a few days for the country and would otherwise be obliged to postpone our interview"...
