Description
Norimbergae [ Nürnberg], Sumptibus Auctoris, 1605; printed by Christoff Lochner]. In-8° oblong : 214 (of 226) pls (engr. title, plates 5, 7, 14, 18, 20, 25, 118, 150, 207, 213-216, 222 and some textlvs missing, text non collated, some lvs misbound, vol. partly unbound, brown staining at some lvs, 2 corners). Contemporary binding : full calf (spine missing, boards rubbed, edges and corners damaged). FIRST EDITION of this important German armorial directory figuring more than 3000 blazons on 390 plates.
BOUND WITH : a number of white leaves at both ends of the volume. Eight of them, in front of the volume, served as leaves for an "album amicorum" for Walther von Warsberg, with manuscript dedications dated 1608 and 4 drawings in pen and colored : 3 blazons and 1 remarkable drawing figuring a horse held by an ape.
Provenance : Walther von Warsberg, a German nobleman (date 1607 and monogram "WAW" blindstamped on both boards).
