Description
Venetiis, apud Joannem Mariam Bonellum, 1558. In-f° : 91 ff. (spotting, few margins repaired, bottom right hand corner of first lvs partly torn, some handwritten marginal notes). Contemporary binding : vellum, flat spine with title in pen (some spotting, small loss of vellum on lower board and spine, wormholes in spine). Collection of epistolary poems (1st ed. : 1511 ?) in elegiac couplets and composed from the point of view of Greek or Roman mythological heroines abandoned or mistreated by their husbands or lovers. With commentaries by scholars Antonio Costanzi, Aronne Battaglia, Lucio Giovanni Scoppa and Giovanni Battista Egnazio. Illustrated with 2 woodcuts in the text and numerous woodcut initials of various sizes. Large printer's device with the motto "virtuti omnia parent" on the title page.
