He congratulate him for his speech “My dear Friend, I had been a long while without hearing from you when your welcome hand appeared again" Thomas Jefferson was elected to the Presidency in February 1801. This is a copy of the very famous letter that Lafayette wrote to Jefferson from Cirey (Lorraine) ; the original being kept in the Library of Congress : “Your speech has had among the friends of Liberty and the pretenders to be so the great success it deserves.
