Later Mommaert ed. (first 1647) of a confession manual, trsl. into Dutch by Daniel a Virgine
Maria (1615-1678), provincial of the Belgian Carmelites. Part of the book consists of a systematic
catalogue of sins. By a simple but efficient procedure of
movable parts
it was possible to indicate
one’s sins without naming them: each entry was partly cut loose in such a way that one could
make a fold in the relevant slips of paper, hand it over to the priest who then stretched the slips flat
again. The last part of the book consists of a set of appropriate prayers. Ill. with
2 engr. ills.
