Contemporary binding : full vellum with visible sewing, flat spine (soiled, lower board damaged with small
holes, tears in the lower flyleaves).

First edition
of the first German emblem book by the poet and jurisconsult Reusner (1545-
1602). Illustrated with 3 coat of arms (two by Reusner : prince Huldrich and a large on
last leaf, 1 of Frederick II) and 140 emblem woodcuts by Tobias Stimmer : 128 in the
"Aureolorum" and 12 allegorical vignettes in the "Agalmata" (CXII being identical to the
VI in the "Agalmata"). The engravings are accompanied by distichs in Latin and German.
Black an red title with a portrait in a medallion within, as the text, a decorated border (frames
repeated).
