“The temple commissioned by Emperor Augustus of Rome and built around 15
BC was removed from its original site in 1963 in order to save it from being
submerged by the construction of the Aswan High Dam. In recognition of the
American assistance, the temple was given to the United States of America.

“The drawings were produced within a very short time ; in our bad climate not
more than eight or ten minutes are required to capture the view of public
building or of a whole quarter of a town; in case of good weather only half of
that time is required, and in hotter climes, as for example Egypt, no more than
two or three minutes are needed. This process is such a great advance for the
traveling scientists and artists, who often are not in a position to extend their
dangerous stay in foreign lands» (Arago, 1839).
