Unusually large vintage gelatin silver exhibition print,
900x810
mm,
mounted on wooden board
Important exemple of a Basrelief technique (isohélie) from a solarised
negative, or an enlarged projection of the close-superposition of a
negative and a transparent positive.
In
1933
, the sitting with this exact same model did generate not less
than 9 negatives, 8 (not totally nude) kept in the Pompidou Museum
in Paris, soon available in digital way, a name on the box indicates a
friend : Nils [von Dardel]. Man Ray printed and signed several prints
from the pose in knees (one in the Getty Museum). An unpublished
variant intitled «solarized torso» appeared at auction during this
spring :
Sotheby's New York: Wednesday, April 06, 2011, lot 0092A.
This enlargement is vintage, on Guilleminot
100
cm-wide roll, it is by
essence
a uniq
ue print, obtained by enlarging the combinaison of a
negative and a positive, nearly jointly superposed in a random combi-
naison, possibly made in the mid
1930
’s for a projected exhibition as
we did found an experiment by Dora Maar, equivalent in size, today in
Picasso’s collection.Man Ray printed also at least 4 silver gelatine pho-
tograph of the same size in the mid
1930
’s for an architectural project.
